Welcome to Reel'em In Guide Service in Ellijay, Georgia -"A North Georgia Fly Fishing Outfitter". We are Ellijay's first fly fishing guide service and outfitter, est. 2001. Ellijay is located approximately 75 minutes north of Atlanta just off of Hwy 515. We are settled in the southern tip of the Appalachian Mountains, the start to some great North Georgia fly fishing!
Our guide service specializes in small stream tactics for wild trout. We guide throughout the beautiful North Georgia Mountains reeling in rainbows, browns, and "our" native char - the brook trout. But, for those who enjoy fly fishing for trophy trout, we offer trips on 2 1/2 miles of private water for the chance to tangle with some "hawgs".
We are not a seasonal fly fishing guide service, but rather a professional service that operates 7 days a week and 52 weeks per year. We are a Forest Service permittee on the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest and an insured outfitter. While others may try to locate fish for you, why not join us and start reel'em in!
Let our Pro-Guides take you on your next fly fishing adventure and experience true "Southern Hospitality". Witness the spectacular scenery of the North Georgia Appalachian Mountains and fly fishing in some of the most attractive waters in Georgia. Whether fly fishing for trout in a mountain stream or river, you'll love the seclusion and peacefulness you get while being out in nature's beauty. Just imagine yourself passing by towering Hemlock trees, the smell of the woods, and the sounds of a rushing stream as it cascades by. And in all this beauty, just imagine yourself as you land a trout on a fly rod!
North Georgia has much to offer fly fishing enthusiasts with the Chattahoochee National Forest. The latest research shows over 4,000 miles of water that supports trout and 1,500 miles of this supports natural reproduction.
There are several streams in this area to choose from and we have two Delayed Harvest streams nearby. Many streams are open year-round and some are only minutes away.
Fishing Report:
As of December, water temps are cooling with an average around 44-50 degrees. Our streams are low but still running good at this time. Start with large WBs or stones early. Switch over to smaller nymphs or wet flies by mid morning. During the mid afternoons, place a nymph as a dropper off a dry fly to get the chance for some top water action while using the dry also as an indicator. If you are not getting any takes, continue to downsize your flies and work hard to stalk carefully.
Mountaintown Creek: Maybe the closest trophy fly fishing stream to Atlanta and only minutes from beautiful Ellijay. It contains rainbows and browns. Our section is now in the fifth year of being trophy managed.
Noontootla Creek Farms: Maybe the most pristine water in North Georgia for our trophy fly fishing anglers. It contains wild rainbows and browns. These fish are some of the most brilliant colored fish in the Southeast.
Either of these streams are where some of our clients come to test their wits against some of the hardest fighting Georgia trout around. Some of these brutes now run up over 28 inches. These are the places to hear screaming reels and watch flying fish!
